Presiding Officer Min Chou provided background information on behalf of the Awards Committee discussions and recommendation. The Awards Committee came up with two candidates as #1 and #2. For #1, consensus/agreement was reached as the best candidate for receiving the CALA Distinguished Award this year. Discussion was called. Board members all agreed that Barbara Ford, the #1 nominee was the best candidate for the award. Voting was conducted; all were in favor. Approval of Ms. Barbara Ford as the recipient of the 2012 CALA Distinguished Service Award passed unanimously.
The Awards Committee recommended a second recipient for the CALA Distinguished Service Award. Discussions were held. Some Board members praised the accomplishments of the nominee. One concern was raised as related to the level of professionalism of the nominee. Disagreements were presented on both the positive and negative aspects of the candidate, particularly on issues raised around the concern. Since the Board unanimously agreed on the #1 nominee, discussions were held around giving the award to one recipient this year which seemed to be the majority opinion of the Board. The motion of giving the award to one recipient this year therefore passed.
