Sally C. Tseng Professional Development Grant

The purpose of Sally C. Tseng's Professional Development Grant is to support research by CALA members. Proposals must focus on research in library and information science for which the applicant is highly qualified and which would result in the advancement of the individuals' professional status.  Proposals will be evaluated by the criteria identified in these guidelines. 

  1. ELIGIBILITY
    1. CALA members of Chinese descendants in good standing (CALA membership for 2 or more years) who are currently working full time in libraries are eligible to apply. Members with 15 or less years of professional library experience will receive preference for the grant.
    2. The applicants must demonstrate interests in research and professional development by presenting papers or reports at conferences, institutes or workshops sponsored by the American Library Association, the Chinese American Librarians Association, the China Society of Library Science and other similar professional organizations.

  2. SUBMISSION OF PROPOSAL
    1. A. The following should be submitted to the Chair of the Sally C. Tseng Professional Development Grant Committee:

      1. The applicant(s) must submit two (2) sets of their proposal. One set should be in paper copy via U.S. mail and another set should be sent electronically via email.
      2. Completed proposal, including  
        • Cover Sheet
        • Need and Purpose of the request
        • Budget
        • Vita
        • Timetable for Completion
        • Three letters of references
    2. Proposals will not be returned to applicants.

  3. DEADLINES
    The complete application package must be postmarked no later than March 15 each year.

  4. FUND
    Sally C. Tseng donates one or two cash award(s) for the total amount of $1,000 annually.

  5. FUNDING PERIOD
    One year, July-June.

  6. REPORTING
    All successful applicants are encouraged to attend the CALA Annual program and banquet and other activities during the ALA annual conference and are required to submit a written report in the following year to the CALA Executive Director before ALA Annual Conference and Sally C. Tseng.  In case of the terms of the grant are violated, the Grants will be rescinded and the recipient is required to return the funds in full to the Association.

  7. NOTIFICATION
    The Chair of the Sally C. Tseng Professional Development Grant Committee will notify the successful applicant(s) prior to the ALA Annual Conference and the recipient(s) will be announced on the CALA Newsletter and listserv.
