(20190516) Programs and Operations Manager

Reporting to the Head of Operations and User Services, the Programs and Operations Manager’s responsibilities include developing and coordinating a broad array of library programming, events, and facilities upkeep. The Library Programs and Operations Manager will collaboratively develop and foster diverse and inclusive programs within the University Libraries physical spaces. The incumbent helps maintain a welcoming user-centered, safe, and functional environment conducive to learning. Additional responsibilities include troubleshooting and management of the Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS), and access and delivery operations including oversight of the mailroom. This position requires the ability to execute work assignments independently and collaboratively. The Programs and Operations Manager is a key member of the Libraries team and will collaborate with colleagues across departments, divisions and campus locations.

This position is a part of the Operations and User Services department which is responsible for supporting a diverse set of functions across library locations. This position will be primarily based in the Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons in Allendale. GVSU Libraries values work-life balance and provides flexibility in accomplishing work. To support reporting staff and the department, this position is required to work varied hours. At times, this position, along with the other managers, is on call for emergencies over the weekend and evenings. This position will give the selected candidate the opportunity to:

 

LEAD-- As a lead for the Operations and User Services Department, The Programs and Operations Manager contributes to success by supervising, supporting, and developing a team of up to seven full time professional support staff. In collaboration with Operations and User Services management team, provides leadership by creating an environment where departmental members work individually, collaboratively and collectively towards achieving individual, departmental, and library goals. This work will also involve process and project management of various initiatives involving a variety of stakeholders.

 

COLLABORATE--The Programs and Operations Manager will work closely with teams both internal and external to the library and will provide opportunities to work with faculty, staff, and students across the GVSU Libraries and the University. We seek someone interested in forming and maintaining strategic relationships across library departments, and across campus to achieve diverse and active programming in University Libraries. We invite applicants who have innovative and creative approaches to their work and who bring a user focus to all aspects of their work.

 

CREATE—The Programs and Operations Manager will be responsible for partnering in the creation and development a User Engagement Strategy designed to ensure an inclusive and coordinated approach to various user touch-points throughout University Libraries. Additional opportunities include co-creation and development of active programming within University Libraries, including our Learning Alcove video display and library exhibits.

Qualifications 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Supervisory experience or demonstrated ability to lead and manage staff and processes/workflows

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated experience with development of events and programs serving a diverse community
  • Experience with project management involving multiple stakeholders

  • Demonstrated experience with building operations and security in a public facility environment

 

Standard Hours for this position:

Fall & Winter Semester Hours: Monday-Friday 10:00am – 7:00pm

Spring/Summer Semester hours as mutually agreed upon
